Box 228, Melfa, VA 23410 CONTACT: Rose Rulon, Executive Director, 757-789-1761 [email protected] The Eastern Shore Literacy Council is pleased to announce a recent award of $2,000.00 from the United Way of Virginia’s Eastern Shore Community Impact Fund to support marketing efforts in literacy awareness and Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library. “We are very grateful to the United Way for this supportive funding,” said Patty McMahon, President of the Board of the Eastern Shore Literacy Council. “This funding will help us reach people in the community and share the work we do. The funds will be used to produce marketing materials for our adult literacy programs and Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library. The Eastern Shore Literacy Council is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. For forty years, the Literacy Council has provided adults with the very lowest literacy levels one-on-one reading and writing assistance through Adult Basic Education (ABE) and English As A Second Language (ESL). All instruction and learning resources are provided at no cost to the adult learner. The Literacy Council is a Local Program Partner for Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library sponsoring books to nearly 900 registered children each month through the program. The United Way of Virginia’s Eastern Shore has distributed more than $1.3 million dollars over the last five years to support local organizations, offering a variety of services that help improve the lives of those who live and work on Virginia’s Eastern Shore.
