Share the gift of literacy. Help an adult achieve personal reading and writing goals or help non-English speaking adults learn to speak and read English. |
What
does a tutor need to do?
 |
Meet weekly with a learner, using teaching materials provided by the Council. |
 |
Make a one-year commitment to tutoring |
 |
Submit periodic reports noting progress and keep in regular contact with ESLC. |
Are
special skills needed to be a tutor?
| Tutors should - |
 |
Have at least a high school diploma or GED; |
 |
Be dependable, prompt and maintain the confidentiality of the learner; |
 |
Be sensitive to the special needs of adult learners; and |
 |
Be flexible, friendly, patient, and open-minded. |
What are the Training Requirements?
 |
Attend an initial training and orientation session, which usually lasts for 16 hours, spread over several days. |
