March 4 & 5: Basic Literacy Tutor Training at ESLC, Belle Haven. More than ever, we need basic literacy tutors. The waiting list is growing and we have a number of learners to be matched. Please help us recruit by sharing with your friends/family/church/etc. The weekend training is Friday, 2-8 (with dinner) and Saturday, 9-5.

March 8: It’s time to report February hours. Please submit hours NO LATER THAN MARCH 8. We appreciate your turning in hours as quickly as possible. We not only enter into our office database, but we are obligated to turn in hours timely to the State DOE as part of grant requirements. Help us improve our data for the State (DOE) from whom we receive two grants. Consider extending class or tutor sessions by 1/2 hour each or meet a minimum of 4 hours/week. We are required to post test Basic Literacy learners after a minimum of 40 hours instruction and for ELL’s, after 60 hours of instruction. ESLC is recognized as a strong community based literacy organization in the State. We owe it to all of you, our learners & our community.

March 18: Grandparent’s Day at Pungoteague Elementary. It is an honor to participate in this annual event. Thanks to several of our volunteers for staffing our table. Special greetings to all our grandparents who volunteer for the cause.
