Box 228, Melfa, VA 23410 CONTACT: Rose Rulon, Executive Director, 757-789-1761 [email protected] The Eastern Shore Literacy Council announced it has received $2,000.00 from the United Way of Virginia’s Eastern Shore Community Impact Fund to support marketing efforts in community outreach and literacy awareness. “We are very appreciative to the United Way for this generous support,” said Rose Rulon, Executive Director of the Eastern Shore Literacy Council. “This funding will help us connect with more people in the community and share the work we do. We plan to use the funds to develop promotional materials to distribute at community events to increase our visibility in the community.” The Eastern Shore Literacy Council is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. Since 1986, with volunteer tutors the Literacy Council has provided adults with the very lowest literacy levels one-on-one reading and writing assistance through Adult Basic Education (ABE) and English As a Second Language (ESL). All instruction and learning resources are provided at no cost to the adult learner. The Eastern Shore Literacy Council is located on the campus of Eastern Shore Community College. The United Way of Virginia’s Eastern Shore has raised more than $8.6 million dollars since 1991 to support local organizations, offering a variety of services, that help improve the lives of those who live and work on Virginia’s Eastern Shore.
